The Oven heating elements are the coils at the top and bottom of an electric oven that heat up and glow red when you turn it on. If your oven doesn’t turn on, or you have a problem with the temperature of the oven while you cook, the problem may be a problem with the oven heating element. Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the oven heater to determine whether the heater works properly. This can assess whether the element is correctly receiving electrical signals from the oven. Other basic tests include physically checking the coil and cross-checking the temperature with an oven thermometer.
1. Unplug the oven, take off the oven heating element, test and evaluate the continuity of the oven heater with a multimeter, and will tell you whether the heating element is working.
2 Determine the oven heating tube at the top and bottom of the oven. The heating element is a large coil at the top and bottom of the oven. Open the oven door, remove the metal rack and remove the oven heating tube.
The oven heating tubes come in different shapes and sizes, but the overall steps are the same regardless of your brand or model. When the oven is turned off, the heating element is black or gray. When the oven is turned on, these elements glow orange.
3. Set the dial of the multimeter to the lowest ohm (Ω) setting. Insert the red cable into the red slot and the black cable into the black slot on the surface of the multimeter. Turn on the device. Then, turn the dial of the multimeter so that it is set to ohm, which is the unit of measurement used to measure resistance. Use the lowest number available in the ohm range to test your heating element. (Convert the corresponding resistance according to the voltage and power of the oven heater).
